Save Money & Improve Air Conditioner Efficiency

For cheap and easy ways to help your air conditioner run more efficiently, try these tips:

  1. Check your filters – Make sure to check your air conditioner’s filter. If it is disposable and dirty, replace it. If it is a reusable filter, give it a good clean. Not only do dirty filters lower the air quality of your home, but they also make your system run less efficiently, which sees higher energy bills and more wear and tear on the unit. Try to do this at least once every three months to continue to improve your air conditioner efficiency.
  2. Check your vents – Vacuum and unblock your vents. Debris can make its way in, making your system lack air conditioner efficiency. Improvement means a simple check and sweep removing any build up of debris and dirt.
  3. Check your outdoor unit – The outdoor air conditioning unit is often forgotten about due to its location. Give it a quick check and remove any dirt or debris, including any leaves or twigs that might have built up over the winter. Doing so will result in a swift improvement on your air conditioner’s efficiency.
  4. Check that your windows and doors are closed – We know this one sounds obvious, but we all occasionally open a window and walk out of the room having forgotten we did so hours later. Doing a quick check that all your doors to the outside and windows are shut will help your air conditioner’s efficiency improve. Plus, no one wants to pay to cool the outdoors!
  5. Check for leaks around windows, etc. – Check your window frames and underneath doors for possible air leaks. If you find any, block them up so as to retain as much of that cooled air in your home as you possibly can.
