Common HVAC Questions Answered

Is a larger system better for my home and wallet?

We often get this common HVAC question from someone who is looking to update, but is unsure where to start. While larger systems may keep your home cooler or warmer, they usually operate on shorter, much less efficient cycles. Along the same lines, a smaller HVAC system will run as long as possible, maybe even continuously, and increase your electricity bill. Therefore, it is best to select a system that is appropriately sized for your home. If you are unsure of the size you need, we are happy to help!

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

There is not one correct answer to this common HVAC question, but instead the answer will come down to age and history of the system. While repair can sometimes be more cost efficient, if your HVAC system is 7 – 8 years old and you have noticed it slowing down or needing frequent repairs, it is often best to just replace it. The HVAC systems we stock at Galmiche & Sons are constantly changing and updating with new technology, therefore becoming more efficient and using less energy.

However, if your current system is relatively new, speak to a member of our team, as a simple repair may be an affordable option. In fact, your unit may even still be under warranty.

Does my AC unit need a filter? Does it need changing?

Common HVAC Questions and Answers

This is one of the most common HVAC questions we receive, and the answer is yes. All HVAC systems use some type of filter that needs to be either cleaned or replaced on a regular basis. Not only does a clean air filter minimize any indoor and outdoor pollution in your home, but they also keep pollen and animal dander at bay – especially helpful for those summer months. It also catches dust and dirt – which will keep the HVAC system healthy and running efficiently throughout any month in the year. Check with your manufacturer or our experts for the recommended cleaning schedule for your system.

How can my HVAC system save me money?

The HVAC systems we have available at our HVAC company are constantly updated and improved using the latest technology to save you even more and more with improved energy efficiency. So buying a new system that is more advanced and efficient is obviously one way to save, but that does not mean you can’t save money using your old system. Changing the filters regularly, using a programmable thermostat, and having annual maintenance checks, all help to ensure your HVAC system has a long, energy-efficient life for your home or business.
